The Status of
Marine Science in the 7th EU Framework Programme (2006-2010)
The EU Commission released its Discussion Paper
"Science and
Technology, the key to Europe's future- Guidelines for future European Union
policy to support research" on the proposed structure of the 7th
Framework Programme (FP7) (2006 - 2010) in June 2004. As a result,
every EU Member /Associate is currently preparing its position on FP7 for
discussion in November 2004.
INPUT TO THE MARINE DEBATE
Following up on the recommendations of the
EurOCEAN 2004 Conference / Galway
Declaration and the Norwegian
OCEANS 2004
Conference, Ireland, Portugal and Norway hosted an informal meeting in
Brussels (5th October 2004) to discuss the status to be accorded to Marine
Sciences in FP7. The Background Paper prepared for this meeting can be
downloaded HERE..
The Meeting was attended by representatives of 16 Member/ Associate States
(Scientific Officers attached to Member / Associate State Permanent
Representation or Mission Offices in Brussels). A Report of this Meeting
is in preparation.
FP7 PUBLIC CONSULTATION
- Broad structure of FP7 (the Six Pillars). Public
consultation on the broad structure (the Six Pillars) of the proposed FP7
Programme closed on 15th October 2004. As and when details become
available they will be posted here.
- Thematic Priorities to be included in FP7. The EU
Commission has launched a public consultation to receive inputs as to the
Thematic Topics to be retained / included in the new
FP7
Programme.
The page provides information about the ongoing work to identify thematic
domains for the purpose of the Commission's proposal for the 7th Framework
Programme, together with links to various relevant thematic fora and
documents. It also provides criteria for the selection of thematic
priorities.
The Thematic domains to be identified will cover an area of research in
which a range of research projects and networks should be supported in the
medium term and allow sufficient flexibility to take into account scientific,
industrial and policy developments during the period of the 7th Framework
Programme.
All contributions are requested by no later than 31st
December 2004.
